Presentations

The oral presentations required each quarter serve a number of purposes:

  • Inform other senior design teams of your project and the progress you are making
  • Provide an opportunity for you to distill the important components from your project and describe them in a clear and concise manner.
  • Prepare to present your project to the public.

Be sure to plan and rehearse each of your team presentations, so that you can clearly communicate what your team has accomplished and how each team member has contributed to the effort. Demonstrations of your product or system are encouraged.

End of Fall Quarter

The primary purpose of this presentation is to inform others of your project goals and describe your progress to date. The presentation should clearly describe:

  • the goal and scope of the project,
  • why your project is important (demonstrate a need/demand for it),
  • one or more personal contributions for each team member,
  • results of your technology investigation (what technology did you choose and why), and
  • an overview of your design.

You may wish to include:

  • a demonstration of your prototype and/or
  • sample use cases and/or portions of your SRS

Note that this presentation is not intended to focus significantly on the team development plan (past or future); these details will be part of the cycle report.

End of Winter Quarter

The primary purpose of this presentation is to inform others of your progress to date. The presentation should clearly describe:

  • a very brief summary of the goal and scope of the project,
  • an update of your progress,
  • one or more personal contributions for each team member, and
  • a demonstration of working component implementations (if available).

You may wish to include a discussion of your test plan. Note that this presentation is not intended to focus significantly on the team development plan (past or future); these details will be part of the cycle report.

Spring Quarter

The primary purpose of this presentation is to provide an opportunity to rehearse your senior design show (“SEED show”) presentation. Since the SEED show will be in a “trade show” format, the presentations will be more impromptu responses to visitors, as opposed to the more formal presentations that rely heavily on visual aids. You should be prepared to present a brief project overview and then respond to questions posed by the audience, in much the same way as will occur at the SEED show.

Projectors probably will not be available at the SEED show unless they were specifically requested. You are encouraged to use notebooks or LCD monitors as part of your “booth”. You may find it helpful to set up a display table equipped the way it will be at the SEED show. Demonstrations of your product or system are encouraged.

Be sure to plan and rehearse key parts of your team's “pitch,” so that you can clearly communicate what your team has accomplished.
